Physique Competitor Ray Reyes joins TrueCore Supplements
Many of you have asked about our TrueCore Athlete. We decided to sit with TrueCore Athlete Ray Reyes and give you an inside look at this hardworking & determined TrueCore Athlete. There are even some tips he gives about cardio and supplementation. Share your comments below! Enjoy!
TrueCore (TC): Ray, tell everyone a little about yourself.
Ray Reyes (Ray): I am 23 years old, 5'11", and weigh 190 lbs. I graduated from California State University San Bernardino with a Bachelors degree in Business Management but now work as a Police Officer in California. My passions are fitness and living a healthy lifestyle.
TC: How did you get into bodybuilding/physique?
Ray: I have always been into playing sports and I often found myself not being the biggest or strongest player. I had to figure out different ways to keep up with the bigger guys. I knew I either had to have better technique, become stronger than them, or do both. My dad was an amateur bodybuilder in his twenties and still had a couple 25 lb dumbbells laying around. At 12 years old, I would do push ups and sit ups in my room and attempted to do various exercises with the dumbbells. I found they were too heavy for me at the time. My brother bought me my first weight set for Christmas one year and I was able to make dumbbells with lighter weight. When I outgrew it, my parents paid for me to join a local gym. I graduated high school as a skinny 150 lb teenager and I thought it was impossible to put on muscle mass and look like the guys on the fitness magazines. Soon after that, I saw myself putting on quality muscle mass and knew that I wanted to one day take my training to the next level.
TC: You recently competed at the Muscle Contest Border States Classic where you your placed 1st. What was it like to win 1st place in 2 classes?
Ray: Honestly, I was disappointed I didn't win the overall trophy. I didn't accomplish the goal I had set for myself. After the competition I told myself, I never want to lose again. In this sport, it is important that you're never satisfied. There is always room for improvement.
TC: What's your favorite body part to workout?
Ray: I would have to say my back. There are so many small muscles in the back that you can target when working out. It is a challenge for me to bring out the most amount of detail in my back. In addition, they often say, "Competitions are won from the back."
TC: What's a typical workout regimen you follow when you are getting ready for competition?
Ray: I workout 6-7 days per week. My workouts usually are Chest and Triceps, Back and Biceps, Legs and Calves, Shoulders and Arms. I hit abs and do cardio post workout everyday.
TC: What's your cardio like?
Ray: My favorite cardio is High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). I like to do sprint intervals where I sprint about 50 yards, then walk back and repeat for about 20-25 minutes. I also like to do different variations with battle ropes. I do my best to stay away from treadmills and stair masters; however, I do utilize these machines also.
TC: What supplements do you take?
Ray: Whey Protein, Casein Protein, BCAA's, Pre-Workout, CLA, Fish Oil, Multi-Vitamin, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Calcium, Glutamine, and L-Carnitine.
TC: What was it like when you became a TrueCore Athlete?
Ray: I am very blessed to be TrueCore Supplement's 1st Athlete. I am honored in being the face of TrueCore and being given the opportunity to inspire and motivate so many people to achieve their personal fitness goals.
TC: What can you tell everyone out there who would like to do what you do?
Ray: Take action and don't just go through the motions. It's all about productivity so make sure the time you spend in the gym is spent working as hard as you possibly can. There's always someone out there that is going to outwork you so push yourself to your limits....and then some.
